Download the Drinking Water Directive e-guide
The European Union’s Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184 introduces a harmonized compliance framework for products and materials that come into contact with drinking water. From 1 January 2027, new products placed on the European market will need to meet the requirements established under Article 11. Manufacturers should therefore begin reviewing their products, materials, supplier documentation, risk classifications, testing requirements, and certification pathways well before the legislation takes effect.
Understand the compliance process
Preparing for DWD compliance can be complex and time-consuming. Manufacturers may need to collect detailed formulation data, verify substances against the European Positive List, calculate wetted surface areas, coordinate with multiple suppliers, complete production audits, and carry out extensive product testing. Depending on the product and the company’s level of preparation, the full certification process can take a year or longer.
